My First Craft for B's Room!

I kind of have a half finished pile of crafts going on for B's room right now. I'll start a project and set it aside to start my next thing always thinking "oh I'll whip this one out in a day or two and then get right back to the first project" So far that plan hasn't worked that well for me, it's the same kind of scatterbrained thinking that goes on when I'm doing a massive cleaning/organizing of the house and I end up working in circles around the house instead of getting one thing done and then moving on to the next. I just have so many ideas for what I want to do with B's room, things I need to buy, things I need to make/finish making and all the other tasks I have to finish before B joins our family, it's hard to focus on just one thing! (Who knew bringing a baby into the world would involve a to do list the length of my arm? I've made more phone calls and had more appointments lately than I can keep track of!)

Though my house/life have been a bit crazy as of late, I've finally found a project that was so easy I finished it in a day! I got the idea for animal silhouettes from Family Fun Magazine and this pin that has been popping up all over Pinterest. (A few years ago Family Fun started showing up in my mailbox and hasn't stopped, I don't know where the subscription came from. I'm not just a crazy childless lady subscribing to family magazines :)

Since Dave and I are slightly obsessed with our pets, I thought it would be fun to do silhouettes of the animals! (Of course B will be just as obsessed with the animals... we just know it :)

I started by searching for silhouettes of our animals, sizing them accordingly and printing them out. (I could have taken an actual picture of the dog and cat and turned it into a silhouette....but that was so much more work). I don't have a printer at my house, so it was easier for me to print a silhouette of the animals on regular printer paper and then put the cut outs on fun paper. I also liked how this looked better than the silhouette cut out of patterned paper, which tended to look really busy.

Then I gluesticked the cut out silhouette on fun scrapbook paper (which I only have a about 5 million pounds of) and popped them into these black, cheapy frames I bought at Meijer - only $3 a pop, nice!

I'm pumped that I finally finished a craft and that it turned out so cute - and cheap to boot! Hopefully B will like them, too! Nothing like a little crafting and some Radiolab and blogging on a Friday night. It's pretty awesome around here - don't get jealous ;)

  1. I don't know where to start:
    1) Those are adorable. I've seen that pin before but now that I've seen someone do it, I'm totally copying it. Straight up.
2)I love seeing you describe your cleaning process. It reminds me so much of when you'd get inspired to clean our classroom and before nap was over the contents of all our cupboards were out on the counter. Love it.
3)I, too, get a random, unrequested subscription to Family Fun magazine! (with my name on it and everything) Weird...
So good to hear from you! Let's talk soon!

  3. Just a word of warning - that to do list gets longer once B arrives. Unfortunately, so does the list of half/never finished projects. Then baby #2,3 &4 (Yikes!) come along and you might as well forget crafting! LOL
I love reading your blog - so fun! I can't wait to see pictures of little B.

  5. @Erin - please do copy, it's so simple! I'll be calling you soon, I've been so busy and meaning to call you!

@Karrie - Glad you're enjoying the blog! I already have such a hard time getting things accomplished, I can't even imagine what it's going to be like when B is here. What I can tell you will happen are 5,000 pictures of Baby :)

@Leann - thanks! I'm glad you like it. The room is coming together and hopefully in the next few weeks I'll have pictures of the finished project!
